After the forced postponement due to a pandemic, last January, a special project dedicated to the extraordinary work of Ann Demeulemeester was staged at the Stazione Leopolda.

She is a stylist from Antwerp, she has always worked and created out of the crowd, with great sensitivity, following her aesthetic that is recognizable and recognized all over the world.

Her fashion is serious but not severe, made up of meticulous tailoring details. Her creations are characterized by a complex simplicity, which is always the most difficult thing to achieve.

Her fashion is conceptual, experimental, but also elegant and glamorous. A poetic style with rock’n’roll “flashes”. Minimalist at a time when another type of aesthetic dominated, combining, in its collections, masculine elements in the feminine collections and vice versa, anticipating genderless by many decades.

Graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1981, along with what will be defined as the “Antwerp Six” (Antwerp six, but also the “young savages”, according to the British press), a set of designers such as Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene and Marina Yee, particularly good and influential.

Since then, the designer has worked as a freelancer for large international brands, until 1985, when she, together with her husband, photographer Patrick Robyn, founded her brand. Her first show in Paris was in 1992, immediately projecting her into the elite of international fashion.

In 2020 the brand was bought by Claudio Antonioli, an enlightened Milanese entrepreneur who takes over the brand with great respect for his past.
