I want to talk about food, the cue is Taste, the salon organized by Pitti Immagine dedicated to excellence in taste and food lifestyle, where more than 300 operators haute cuisine for three days (March 8 to 10) will meet in Florence, at the Stazione Leopolda, for the ninth edition of this interesting and “nice” event.

Taste is a journey in taste, the food and design of the table, where our territory is explored and named to represent the excellence of Italian food. In fact, this fair will gather the best players gastronomy. But it is not only the place where you eat and drink well , there are also objects , Taste Tools, ie all the tools that are in our kitchens as well as useful and that now they have become objects of design, playful , colorful, essential companions of our lives. Taste Tour is the area, a tasting journey where 300 companies are exhibiting their products known (just to name a few… parmesan truffle cream, salt cod and saffron sauce, the cake with pistachios from Sicily and white chocolate). Taste Shop, a store of different foods, unique and precious, where you can buy and taste the delicacies found along the way.

The theme of this edition is the Fabbrica del Gusto, the message is that behind an excellent food there is a lot of work, a lot of experience, a lot of attention, culinary cultures that are passed down from generation to generation. Produce a good food or cook a good meal is not very different by the artisan that creates a pretty dress, a special bag, a precious jewel, a piece of furniture or a vase. In all these things, it takes skilled hands, a lot of commitment and a willingness to give happiness by creating masterpieces.

Food is another important strength of Italy, exploit it, we teach our children how to eat well, try to give value and merit, and preference for foods of our region. We are the land of Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma, Truffle, Pasta, Tomato, Pizza, extra virgin Olive Oil, Mozzarella, of a thousand cheeses (pecorino, gorgonzola, provolone, pulling away), the Florentine steak, good wine from Veneto to Tuscany, Puglia to Sicily, Nutella and lots of delicious and wonderful things that I have certainly forgotten.

I am reminded of the Ego food critic in the movie Ratatouille, where in front of a simple dish, but cooked with skill, returning the child, that sublime taste sensation by sending him back to childhood passed, the love with which his mother prepared for him to eat, a fantastic round trip. How many of us associate it with food scents that felt by children, for example, on Sunday morning, coming from the kitchen where our mothers or grandmothers cooking there declaring their affection. The food fact for me is that, it is a discovery, a pleasure of life, a way to forget the thoughts and everyday problems, but above all a gesture of love. Who cooks for you with love and patience, love you, remember!
Big Night Poster
One of the movies that I think has “spoken” best food, is Big Night, directed by and starring Stanley Tucci (extraordinary) and Campbell Scott. Which tells the story of two brothers of Italian origin who emigrated to the United States struggling with the desire to import the taste and Italian cuisine in their restaurant, refusing the stereotype in the obvious way (finally!). The film is also much more, the difficult to do it only with their talent, discipline and morality. Movies hilarious and sad, a little masterpiece.
From whatever angle you look at it, when the food is great, the meaning and the taste always prevail. Good-bye “Taste”, see you next year!
My lap was completed and finally today is a sunny day, the Spring is coming and with it the awakening of nature with its colors and scents in the air .
And after so much delight, for those who still have a bit ‘of time and want to help digestion, I suggest a nice walk in the Cascine Park (right near there) between the green and the views of the beautiful Florence.
