“The new season” by Beatrice Brandini

I was invited by Milano Unica presentation on Trends A / W 2017-18 and for the second time took place in the beautiful spaces of Pelota, Brera. Upon entering, even more than last time, I was impressed and fascinated by the magnificent construction. In an already magical place, they had been placed dozens of mannequins, in which a cloth / kimono, customized by the subject matter, was adorned with fabrics and accessories of incredible creativity and beauty.

It seems to enter into a movie, a museum (almost at the Stibbert of Florence with its most beautiful room, the armory European!), an extraordinary place, decidedly surreal …

The guiding theme for this season was the elegance expressed through the personality and creativity of six characters that have enchanted the world with their works. Characters that are compared and only instinctively appear very different. In fact, they were able to use a new expressive language that gave birth to beautiful inventions and productions, architectural, pictorial or textile. These men, their minds, their ideas, signatures are still extremely current and this presentation, which feeds of their inspiration, ably demonstrates.

The first “confrontation” was between Alberto Burri and Renzo Piano, or the importance of the raw material and its processing capacity. For Burri matter as expressive quality, it has been the main protagonist of his research and his work. His “informal” art (no precise forms), far away from the figurative, was expressed through molds, tars, combustions. As opposed to the Burri abstract world, there is the architect’s work par excellence, Renzo Piano, one who uses technology to modern buildings but with a profound relationship with the past and its tradition. Both are linked by the communicative power MATTER. This results in fabrics and accessories (trims, buttons, labels …) so rich as to seem architectures. Chrome seams. Fantasy padding and macro. Mix of materials. Artistic burns. Effect cast iron and iron rusted. Color: biscuit, white, sage, taupe, ocher, orange, powder blue.

The last “comparison” was that between Walter Albini and Piero Portaluppi, both reinterpret the classics (in the textile world and in the architecture) with a touch of humor and joy. Two visionary personalities, lovers of classic, manic in the detail search. Both spokesperson for a sumptuous elegance but irreverent, of a modernity that looks the great classics, no matter whether they are represented by Fitzgerald’s novels or the more austere Liberty. Matter the outcome. Many shapes and prints. Many designs. Paintings Games. Blurred lines. Graphic designs. Color: putty, powder pink, lilac, aviation blue, ocher, harbor.

These talents, these associations, these apparent differences tell us one thing, that the difference between past and present is not so marked, that tradition and modernity are based and mingle, tracing the codes for what will be the elegance of the future A/W 2017/18 of Milano Unica.

Milano Unica,  A-W 2017/18

Milano Unica thanks for the invitation and especially for this beautiful presentation, to see so much beauty, mainly thanks to the increasingly companies that will then participate in the fair in September (tissues or buttons, ribbons or little labels…) , makes you realize that Italy is great, great his fashion system of creativity ,excellence, tradition, talent, work and effort, despite, I repeat, our leaders, so much bureaucracy and a tax system that also crush a giant.

A la prochaine!

Good life to all!

Beatrice
